From time to time, some of our CRC team members have been known to take the BIG RIDE and get married. Team members Karen & Ralph got married on June 07, 2006. Of course there are many June weddings, but Ralph & Karen were the first two people to ever get married on top of the new Cooper River Bridge, aka Ravenel Bridge, in Charleston.
Finding a preacher willing to ride a bicycle to the top of the bridge with them, they got married on their bicycles overlooking Charleston Harbor below. Outfitted in their finest wedding cycling gear (Ralph's bow-tie and Karen's veil attached to her helmet) they pedaled to the top, attracting quite a crowd of onlookers in the process. The pictures taken of the actual wedding itself were taken by strangers who happened to end up in the crowd. Other pictures were taken by Ralph & Karen as they enjoyed pedaling all through Charleston after their wedding.
The State newspaper published a story about the newlyweds and their wedding on August 29, 2006.
